There are so many different diets to choose from these days so how do we know where to start? What I decided to do was start at the beginning. The beginning of the alphabet, that is. My plan was to work through the various diets on offer until I found one that interested me. Do you know how lucky I was? As you can already tell, today I’m going to be talking about the alkaline diet. So fortunately I didn’t have to look too far! It’s a good thing that it isn’t called ze alkaline diet!
If you have young kids then you are sure to know the importance of feeding them some fresh fruit and vegetables every day. Thinking back to our own childhoods you may be able to remember being forced to eat your greens. Fortunately for me, I loved eating broccoli and brussels sprouts. I can’t remember being too keen on spinach though.
Essentially, this is what the alkaline diet is all about. Eating greens. Not only that, almost every single fruit and vegetable has an alkalizing effect upon the human body. In fact, foods can be classified as either acid forming or alkaline forming. What this diet advocates is maintaining a healthy pH balance in our body. If we become too acidic or too alkaline, that is a bad thing. This is why drinking home made fruit and vegetable juices is beneficial.
Unfortunately, most people living in America today tend to have a rather acidic diet. This is characterized by low fruit and vegetable consumption and high amounts of carbs and meats. Now, the alkaline diet is not saying that acid foods are bad. But it is pretty clear that bad acid foods are bad. Take for instance, sodas and greasy fast food. These don’t really give us any quality nutrition and they make us become a bit more acidic.
The reason why proper pH balance is important is so that we feel more energetic and are able to have a more positive outlook on life.
